The goal of this course is to prepare students for work as "general duty assistants" in the "healthcare industry." The general duty assistants are responsible for attending to the everyday needs, comfort, safety, and health of their patients. When operating in a hospital setting, General Duty Assistants - Healthcare (GDAs) are sometimes referred to as "Nursing Care Assistants," "Nursing Assistants," "Nursing Aides," "Bedside Assistants," or "Orderlies." GDAs, or general duty assistants, support nurses and other medical staff personnel. They operate in community or hospital environments, guided by a licensed healthcare practitioner. Depending on the industry in which they work, the function may change. The person must have a goal-oriented mindset. Additionally, the person must be able to exhibit ethical behavior, communication skills, and fundamental patient care abilities. The candidate must be open to working in shifts in wards or clinics.
